Rising Costs of Minor Hockey – New Royal Bank (RBC) Survey
Did you see the 2 part series in the Globe & Mail (Dec 5th and 6th by Rachel Brady) on Decreasing Enrollment #’s, Rising Costs of minor hockey in Canada? This was the main graphic summarizing a survey that RBC did -
What’s interesting about the survey results is;
1. The #1 reason that parents cite for not registering their child in minor hockey is COST.
2. 22% of all parents feel that the lack of financial support from their local business community is a major challenge facing their minor hockey association.
Well, what is genesis of our business model? To work with local and national businesses to offer great deals out to minor hockey parents thereby saving them dollars on the purchases that they need to make PLUS 12.5% goes back to the minor hockey team or association that the parent is affiliated with.
We feel that we DIRECTLY AND ABSOLUTELY address Point #1 and Point #2 above.
Our mandate is to make minor hockey more affordable for all Canadians. Every kid should at least have the option to play Canada’s sport.
By last count, there have been about 25 articles on this same topic since Sept 1st. I suspect, if we look back there was 25 articles last fall on this topic and there will be another 25 next fall. We can’t wait to tell the Community Engage story – can you imagine a headline “Cost of Minor Hockey Going Down” or “Families finding Minor Hockey More Affordable” – it will happen.
